Damaskos Byzantine Paisley 18K Gold Open Bangle
An open bangle in 18K gold, shaped around a repeating Byzantine paisley motif. Surface texture is achieved through a hand-applied martillé finish — a technique that creates a fine, velvety hammered surface across every curve. Granulation detail is worked entirely by hand in the Damaskos atelier in Athens.
About The Product
The Byzantine Paisley Open Bangle is built around a continuous paisley motif drawn from Byzantine decorative tradition. The open form allows the bangle to sit close to the wrist without a clasp, letting the relief of the pattern carry the piece. It reads quietly from a distance and precisely up close.
The surface is finished using a martillé technique — a hand-hammering process that leaves a fine, dimpled texture across the gold, giving it a velvety, non-reflective quality distinct from polished or brushed finishes. Granulation — the application of tiny fused gold spheres — adds further relief to the motif, following a method that traces back to ancient Greek goldsmithing. The bangle is cast and finished in 18K gold and weighs 15 grams. No stones are set; the design relies entirely on form and surface work.
Damaskos is an Athens-based atelier whose work references the full span of Greek goldsmithing — from Archaic and Classical forms through the Byzantine period. Each piece is made by hand in their workshop. The bangle is designed for daily wear and pairs naturally with other pieces from the Damaskos range, including rings, earrings, and necklaces from the same design family. Also available in an all-gold version without black platinum contrast — contact Brilliant Athens for details.
