Damaskos Byzantine Filigree Hinged Bangle with Diamonds
An 18K gold hinged bangle built on a classic Byzantine silhouette, finished with a hand-hammered martillé surface for a velvety, light-diffusing texture. Black platinum detailing frames granulation, twisted rope wire, and hand-formed gold rosettes — Rodakes — each one shaped individually in the Damaskos atelier. Set with twelve round diamonds, each 1.80mm.
About The Product
This hinged bangle is built on a classic Byzantine form, distinguished by a combination of techniques rarely found together in a single piece: granulation, twisted rope wire, and hand-formed Rodakes — small gold rosettes drawn from ancient Greek decorative tradition. A black platinum ground anchors the surface decoration and deepens the contrast between the gold wirework and the diamonds set along the border.
The bracelet is crafted in 18K gold weighing 15 grams. The martillé finish — a hand-hammering technique applied across the surface — creates a fine, velvety texture that diffuses light rather than reflecting it in a single plane. This is the opposite of a high-polish finish; the effect is quieter and more complex. Twelve round diamonds, each measuring 1.80mm, are set at even intervals to frame the central decoration without competing with it. All construction takes place by hand in the Damaskos workshop in Athens.
Damaskos has worked within the Byzantine and Archaic goldsmithing traditions for decades, treating these techniques as a living practice rather than a historical reference. The bangle wears equally well as a daily piece or a formal one — the hinged construction allows for a secure, close fit. Also available in all gold, without the black platinum ground.
