Damaskos Byzantine 18K Gold Oval Studs with Blue Enamel
Oval stud earrings in 18K gold, set with deep blue enamel recalling the lapis lazuli favored in antiquity. Byzantine detailing is worked entirely by hand at the Damaskos atelier in Athens — each surface enlivened with fine granulation and twisted wire borders characteristic of the ancient goldsmithing tradition.
About The Product
These oval stud earrings are built around a deep blue enamel center — a color and material with direct roots in ancient Greek adornment, where lapis lazuli was among the most prized stones. The oval form is framed in 18K gold with surface detailing drawn from Byzantine jewelry vocabulary: tight granulation along the border and fine twisted wire that defines the edge of each stone setting.
The earrings weigh 10 grams and are crafted in 18K gold. Granulation — the technique of fusing tiny gold spheres onto a surface without visible solder — was refined by Greek goldsmiths in the Archaic period and remains one of the most labor-intensive processes in the Damaskos workshop. Twisted wire work, shaped and set by hand, adds a second layer of surface texture that shifts under light. Both techniques are executed without the use of casting molds; each piece is formed individually.
Damaskos is an Athenian atelier with decades of practice in pre-Byzantine and Byzantine goldsmithing methods. The earrings are sized for daily wear but carry the weight and finish of a collected object. They pair naturally with other pieces from the Damaskos Byzantine range — a coordinating bracelet, ring, or necklace from the collection completes the look.
