Damaskos Byzantine Filigree 18K Gold Cuff with Diamonds
An open-back cuff in 18K gold, worked with filigree wire and a hand-hammered martillé finish that gives the surface a soft, velvety texture. Coiled wire detailing and set diamonds catch the light across a bracelet shaped to hug the wrist without a clasp. Made entirely by hand in the Damaskos atelier, Athens.
About The Product
The Byzantine Filigree Cuff is an open-back bracelet in 18K gold, designed to rest against the wrist without a clasp. Its structure is defined by two competing textures: the matte, velvety ground of the martillé finish and the high-polish brightness of the coiled wire and filigree details layered over it. Diamonds are set within the filigree framework, adding points of light without disrupting the handcrafted surface.
The martillé finish — derived from the French for “hammered” — is applied by hand using a small punch across the entire gold surface, creating a fine, non-uniform texture that diffuses light rather than reflecting it directly. Over this ground, Damaskos craftsmen lay twisted and coiled wire using filigree techniques that trace back to ancient Greek goldsmithing. Each wire element is shaped, placed, and soldered individually. The bracelet weighs 15 grams and is worked in 18K gold throughout.
Damaskos is an Athens-based atelier with over four decades of continuous production in ancient Greek goldsmithing techniques. This cuff is built for regular wear — the open-back form accommodates most wrist sizes and the martillé surface resists the minor abrasions of daily use better than a high-polish finish. It functions equally as a standalone piece or worn alongside other Damaskos work.
