Damaskos Byzantine 18K Gold Filigree Cuff with Tourmalines
An open cuff in 18K gold with a martillé finish — a hand-hammered technique that creates a velvety, light-catching texture across the surface. Granulation and colorful tourmalines are set alongside twelve round diamonds (1.80mm each), finished with black platinum detailing. Shaped entirely by hand in the Damaskos atelier in Athens.
About The Product
This open cuff bracelet is built around the contrast between its dark black platinum detailing and the warm depth of 18K gold — a pairing that gives the piece its visual weight without heaviness. Colorful tourmalines and twelve round diamonds, each measuring 1.80mm, are distributed across the surface in a composition rooted in Byzantine jewelry tradition.
The cuff is finished with a martillé technique — a hand-hammering process applied directly to the gold surface to produce a soft, velvety texture that diffuses light rather than reflecting it sharply. Granulation, the ancient practice of fusing tiny spheres of gold onto a metal ground without solder, adds dimensionality to the design. Both techniques require considerable manual control and are executed entirely in the Damaskos workshop. The bracelet weighs 15 grams and is made from 18K gold throughout, with black platinum applied selectively as a surface treatment.
Damaskos is one of the few remaining ateliers in Greece working in continuous practice with pre-modern goldsmithing techniques — methods documented from Archaic and Byzantine periods and kept alive through apprenticeship rather than industrial reproduction. This cuff wears equally well as a standalone piece or paired with a ring or pendant from the same collection. It is also available in an all-gold version without black platinum detailing.
