Damaskos Byzantine Braided Bar 18K Gold Bracelet
An 18K gold bracelet combining a hand-engraved bar with braided rope wire and granulation detailing. The surface carries a martillé finish — hand-hammered to produce a velvety, light-diffusing texture. Crafted entirely by hand in the Damaskos atelier in Athens. Also available in all gold.
About The Product
This bracelet pairs a flat engraved bar with braided rope wire construction — two techniques rarely combined in a single piece. The bar is set against the woven body in a deliberate contrast of surface and structure, grounded in Byzantine design principles. Black platinum accenting deepens the visual relief of the engraving.
The bracelet is worked entirely by hand in the Damaskos atelier. The martillé finish — achieved by striking the gold surface with a small hammer at close intervals — creates a matte, velvety texture that softens reflected light rather than amplifying it. Granulation, the ancient technique of fusing tiny spheres of gold onto the surface without solder, edges the bar in fine detail. Twisted rope wire borders the construction, a technique traceable to Archaic Greek goldsmithing. The piece weighs 15 grams and is made in 18K gold throughout.
Damaskos has worked out of Athens for decades, preserving goldsmithing methods that predate industrial production. Each bracelet leaves the atelier as a singular object — no two hammer strikes fall in the same place. This piece wears equally well alone or paired with a ring, earrings, or necklace from the same collection. Also available in all gold, without the black platinum finish — contact Brilliant Athens for details.
