Damaskos Byzantine Filigree 18K Gold Cuff with Rubies
An 18K gold open cuff finished in martillé — a hand-hammered technique that produces a soft, velvety surface texture. Seven oval rubies (5x4mm each) and four diamonds are set across an ornamental field of twisted rope wire and granulation, both hallmarks of Byzantine goldsmithing.
About The Product
This open cuff bracelet is built around a martillé-finished 18K gold form — a hand-hammered surface technique that creates a fine, velvety texture distinct from polished or satin finishes. Seven oval rubies and four round diamonds are distributed across the face, framed by an intricate ground of twisted rope wire and granulation.
The martillé finish is applied by hand, each strike of the tool leaving a controlled impression across the gold surface. Granulation — the process of fusing tiny gold spheres onto a base metal without visible solder — and twisted wire detailing are ancient techniques refined by Byzantine goldsmiths and still executed by hand in the Damaskos atelier. The bracelet weighs 15 grams in 18K gold. The rubies measure 5x4mm each (oval cut, seven stones); the diamonds measure 1.80mm each (four stones). Also available in alternate stone selections.
Damaskos is an Athens-based atelier with decades of practice in archaeological-style goldsmithing — producing pieces that draw directly from Byzantine and ancient Greek source material rather than reinterpreting it at a remove. This cuff is designed for regular wear. The open form allows for easy sizing, and the low-profile setting makes it practical for daily use without sacrificing the density of detail that defines the house’s work.
