Damaskos Byzantine 18K Gold Constantinato Cross Pendant – ICXC NIKA with Diamond
A Constantinato cross in 18K gold, sandblasted to a matte finish and set with a 1.80mm diamond. The ICXC NIKA inscription — “Jesus Christ conquers” — is drawn from Byzantine devotional tradition. Handcrafted entirely in the Damaskos atelier in Athens.
About The Product
The Constantinato is one of the oldest continuous forms in Greek jewelry. This pendant carries the inscription ICXC NIKA — “Jesus Christ conquers” — rendered in the compact, iconic format that has been worn as a protective charm and devotional object since the Byzantine era. It is not an evil eye talisman in the conventional sense; it is a cross that carries the full weight of Orthodox iconographic tradition.
The pendant is worked in 18K gold and finished with a sandblasting technique that produces a uniform matte surface — a deliberate counterpoint to the reflective quality of polished gold. A single 1.80mm diamond is set at center, providing a precise point of light against the matte ground. The piece weighs approximately 2 grams. Every element — the surface treatment, the stone setting, the inscription — is executed by hand in the Damaskos workshop in Athens.
Damaskos has produced Byzantine and Archaic-revival jewelry in Athens for decades, working from historical references rather than stylistic approximations. The Constantinato has traditionally been given to infants as a first piece of jewelry, but it functions equally well as daily wear for an adult. It connects generations without requiring explanation. Also available in different stone options — contact Brilliant Athens for current variants.
