Damaskos Byzantine 18K Gold Cross with Emeralds & Diamonds Ornate
A double-sided 18K gold cross with a hand-hammered martillé finish that gives the surface a soft, velvety texture. Granulation detailing runs along the arms, set with a round emerald on one face and accented with 0.05 ct of diamonds. Handcrafted in the Damaskos atelier in Athens.
About The Product
This double-sided 18K gold cross is built to be worn on both faces — one side set with a round emerald, the other finished with the same ornate granulation and martillé surface work that defines the Damaskos Byzantine line. It functions as both a devotional object and a sculptural pendant.
The cross is finished using the martillé technique, a process of hand-hammering the gold surface to produce a fine, velvety texture that diffuses light rather than reflects it. Granulation — the ancient practice of fusing tiny gold beads onto a surface without solder — adds dimension to the arms and frame. The emerald measures 2.30 mm and is paired with 0.05 ct of diamonds. The piece weighs 20 grams and is worked entirely in 18K gold.
Damaskos is a family-run atelier in Athens that has practiced Byzantine goldsmithing techniques for decades, drawing directly from museum collections and archaeological sources. This cross is suited to daily wear as a pendant or reserved for occasions where the piece will be seen closely — the craft detail rewards proximity. It is an object made to be passed on.
