Damaskos Byzantine 18K Gold Cross with Ruby & Diamonds
A hand-hammered 18K gold cross with a sandblasted matte finish, accented by granulation — a technique tracing back to ancient Greek goldsmithing. Set with one ruby (4x3mm) and four round diamonds (0.08 ct total). Made entirely by hand in the Damaskos atelier in Athens.
About The Product
This small Byzantine cross pendant is built around three distinct hand techniques: hammer work, sandblasting, and granulation. The result is a matte-finished gold surface textured by hand, set against the precise geometry of a classic cross form. It is compact in scale and considered in detail.
The cross is forged in 18K gold and weighs 20 grams. The surface is first hand-hammered to create texture, then sandblasted to achieve a uniform matte finish. Granulation — the ancient technique of fusing tiny gold spheres to a metal surface without visible solder — traces the cross with fine decorative detail. A single oval ruby (4x3mm) sits at the center, flanked by four round diamonds totaling 0.08 carats.
Damaskos is an Athens-based atelier that has worked within the Byzantine and Archaic goldsmithing traditions for decades. Every piece is made by hand using techniques that predate industrial jewelry production by centuries. This cross is sized for daily wear — substantial enough to carry meaning, restrained enough to wear close to the body.
