Damaskos Byzantine 18K Gold Ring with Diamond
An 18K gold ring built on a Byzantine framework, finished with a hand-hammered martillé surface that gives the gold a velvety, light-diffusing texture. Granulation work traces the band in precise detail. Set with a single 1.80 mm diamond, 0.02 ct total weight.
About The Product
This ring draws directly from the Byzantine decorative tradition — a structured, ornate design language that flourished in ancient Greece and reached its peak in Constantinople. What distinguishes it from plainer gold bands in the Damaskos collection is the layering of surface technique: the form itself is only the beginning.
The gold is worked to an 18K standard and finished with a martillé technique — a hand-hammering process that breaks the surface into thousands of micro-facets, creating a velvety texture that absorbs and scatters light rather than reflecting it flatly. Granulation — the application of tiny gold spheres fused directly to the surface without solder — traces the design in a pattern perfected by ancient Greek goldsmiths. A single 1.80 mm round diamond, totaling 0.02 carats, is set at the center. The ring weighs 11 grams, a substantive presence on the hand. Every step of this process is carried out by hand in the Damaskos atelier in Athens.
Damaskos has worked exclusively in historical Greek goldsmithing techniques for decades, treating each piece as a direct continuation of workshop practice rather than a reproduction of it. This ring is built for daily wear — the weight and finish are durable by design — but the granulation and martillé detail make it equally suited as a piece that accumulates meaning over time.

The Damaskos Collection
Each ring in this collection is shaped entirely by hand in the Damaskos atelier in Athens — without molds, without machinery.
