Damaskos Byzantine Double Medallion 18K Gold Drop Earrings
Two layered gold medallions, each finished with a hand-hammered martillé surface that gives the metal a soft, velvety texture. Round rubies — 2.30mm each — are set within frames of granulation, a goldsmithing technique traced to ancient Greece. Handcrafted entirely at the Damaskos atelier in Athens.
About The Product
These drop earrings are built around two stacked Byzantine medallions in 18K gold, designed to move with the wearer. The defining detail is the double-drop silhouette — each medallion suspended from the next — giving the piece a quiet architectural weight that single-drop styles do not have.
The surface is finished using a martillé technique: the gold is worked with a specialized hammer to create a texture that catches light softly rather than reflecting it sharply, producing what is often described as a velvety finish. Around the perimeter of each medallion, individual spheres of gold are applied by hand using granulation — an ancient process in which tiny beads are fused to the surface without solder, relying instead on precise heat and copper-bond adhesion. Round rubies measuring 2.30mm each are set at intervals, framed by that granulation border. The earrings weigh 10 grams and are made in 18K gold.
Damaskos is an Athenian atelier that has worked exclusively in ancient Greek goldsmithing techniques for decades. Every piece leaves the workshop shaped entirely by hand — no casting from mass molds. These earrings are substantial enough for a formal occasion and refined enough for daily wear, pairing with both modern tailoring and traditional dress.
