Damaskos Byzantine Oval Stud Earrings in 18K Gold with Blue Gems
Oval stud earrings in 18K gold, set with blue gemstones and finished with fine granulation — a technique traced directly to ancient Greek goldsmithing. Each earring is shaped and assembled by hand in the Damaskos atelier in Athens.
About The Product
These oval stud earrings are built around a Byzantine medallion form — a compact, high-relief structure that reads as architectural rather than decorative. The blue gemstone at the center is set within a raised gold bezel, anchoring the composition without overpowering it.
The earrings are crafted in 18K gold using granulation, an ancient technique in which minute spheres of gold are fused to the surface without solder, using heat and a copper-based bonding agent. The process requires absolute precision — each granule is placed individually, and the result cannot be corrected once fired. The finished surface has a texture that catches light differently than polished or hammered gold, giving the piece a quiet visual depth. Total weight is 10 grams per pair, and the gold purity is 18K throughout.
Damaskos is one of the few remaining ateliers in Greece working in the full vocabulary of ancient goldsmithing techniques. The earrings are designed for regular wear — the stud format keeps them secure, and the scale is proportioned for both day and evening. A piece made to be worn, not stored.
