Damaskos Byzantine Coin Stud Earrings in 18K Gold
18K gold stud earrings centered on a Greek Key motif — an unbroken line associated with infinity — bordered by hand-applied granulation and finished with a martillé surface that gives the gold a velvety, light-diffusing texture. A 1.80mm diamond sits at the center of each earring.
About The Product
These stud earrings are built around the Meander, or Greek Key — a continuous linear motif that has appeared without interruption in Greek decorative art for centuries. The pattern is framed by granulation, a technique that places tiny spheres of gold along the edges of a form. The result is architectural and precise rather than ornate.
Each earring is shaped entirely by hand in the Damaskos atelier in Athens. The surface carries a martillé finish — a hand-hammered texture that breaks up reflected light and gives the gold a soft, almost matte depth rather than a high-gloss shine. Granulation is among the oldest goldsmithing techniques in the Mediterranean tradition, requiring each sphere to be fused individually without solder. A 1.80mm diamond is set at the center of each earring. The piece is cast and finished in 18K gold.
Damaskos has operated as an atelier in Athens for decades, working within the vocabulary of Byzantine and Archaic Greek goldsmithing. These earrings are sized and weighted for daily wear — substantial enough to read as a considered choice, refined enough to move from morning to evening without adjustment. They are designed to be kept.
