Damaskos Byzantine 18K Gold Necklace with Tourmalines
18K gold with a hand-hammered martillé finish that gives the surface a distinctive velvety texture. Set with blue topaz, peridot, and rhodolite tourmalines alongside four diamonds, each stone measuring 3x3mm. Granulation detailing throughout — shaped entirely by hand in the Damaskos atelier in Athens.
About The Product
This Byzantine necklace is built around the martillé finish — a hand-hammered surface technique that scatters light across the gold in a way a polished surface cannot. The effect is velvety and matte in character, with depth that changes as it moves. Black platinum plating is applied selectively to create contrast against the 18K gold ground.
The piece weighs 31.90 grams and is set with blue topaz, peridot, and rhodolite tourmalines at 3x3mm each, plus four diamonds at 1.80mm each. Granulation — the ancient technique of fusing tiny spheres of gold to a surface without solder — traces the stone settings and border work. Each element is formed and finished by hand in the Damaskos workshop. No two pieces are identical.
Damaskos has worked within the Byzantine goldsmithing tradition for decades, treating historical methods as a living practice rather than a reference point. This necklace pairs naturally with other pieces from the Damaskos Byzantine line — ring, earrings, or a second necklace — and is designed for both daily wear and formal occasions. Also available in all gold without the black platinum finish; contact Brilliant Athens for details.
