Damaskos Byzantine 18K Gold Bangle with Emeralds
An open teardrop bangle in 18K gold, finished in a hand-hammered martillé technique that produces a soft, velvety texture across the surface. Granulation work frames two oval emeralds, each 4x3mm, set in the Byzantine tradition. Handcrafted in the Damaskos atelier in Athens.
About The Product
This open teardrop bangle is built around a single defining gesture: a martillé-finished gold surface that catches light the way ancient hammered vessels do — not with flash, but with depth. Two oval emeralds, each measuring 4x3mm, are set along the form and bordered by granulation, the centuries-old technique of fusing tiny gold beads to a surface without solder.
The bracelet is handcrafted in 18K gold and weighs 15 grams — substantial enough to hold its shape and presence on the wrist. The martillé finish is applied by hand, each small hammer strike creating a slightly irregular, velvety texture that cannot be replicated by machine. Granulation work, which traces back to Etruscan and Byzantine goldsmithing, requires extreme precision: individual gold granules are adhered through a heat-diffusion process and finished by hand at the Damaskos atelier in Athens.
Damaskos has worked within the tradition of ancient Greek goldsmithing for decades, drawing directly from archaeological sources rather than reinterpreting them at a remove. This bracelet is designed for daily wear and pairs naturally with pieces from the Damaskos Byzantine ring, earring, or necklace range. It functions equally as a standalone piece and as the anchor of a curated stack.
