Damaskos Byzantine 18K Gold Cross with Five Diamonds
A small Byzantine cross in 18K gold, finished with a hand-hammered martillé surface that gives the gold a velvety, light-diffusing texture. Five round diamonds, each 1.80mm, are set at the cardinal points and center. Made entirely by hand in the Damaskos atelier in Athens.
About The Product
This Byzantine cross pendant is built around the martillé finish — a hand-hammering technique applied directly to the gold surface that creates a soft, velvety texture rather than a polished reflection. The five diamonds are positioned at each arm and the center of the cross, catching light against the matte gold ground in a way a mirror finish would not allow.
The cross is worked in 18K gold and set with five round brilliant diamonds totaling 0.10 ct, each measuring 1.80mm. The martillé finish is applied by hand, strike by strike, across the entire surface — a process that cannot be replicated by machine and means no two pieces are identical. Because the piece is entirely handcrafted, weight may vary slightly, plus or minus 0.2 grams, as is standard for work produced in this way.
Damaskos is an Athenian atelier with decades of practice in ancient Greek goldsmithing techniques — granulation, wire drawing, and surface texturing among them. The martillé cross sits close to the neck and wears lightly. It is the kind of piece that moves between daily wear and occasion dressing without adjustment — precise in scale, deliberate in finish.
