Damaskos Byzantine 18K Gold Ring with Blue Topaz & Tourmalines

This ring is rooted in Byzantine jewelry tradition — a design vocabulary defined by architectural layering, rich surface texture, and the interplay of colored stone against worked gold. What distinguishes it within the Damaskos collection is the combination of a hand-hammered martillé finish with black platinum plating, a pairing that creates depth and contrast across the ring’s surface.

The gold is 18K and weighs 10.2 grams — substantial enough to wear as a statement piece, refined enough for daily use. The martillé technique involves striking the gold surface by hand with a specialized hammer, producing a faceted, velvety texture that catches light differently than polished or brushed gold. Black platinum is applied selectively to the recessed areas, sharpening the contrast of the relief work. Blue topaz and tourmalines provide color, set alongside four round diamonds of 1.80mm each, totaling 0.08 carats. Granulation — tiny spheres of gold fused to the surface without solder — adds a further layer of handwork drawn directly from ancient Greek goldsmithing practice.
