Damaskos Archaic 18K Gold Martillé Pendant

This pendant is built around a single defining surface treatment: the martillé finish, a hand-hammered technique that breaks light across the gold in a way no polished surface can replicate. The result is a matte, velvety texture that reads as quiet and architectural rather than decorative. It draws from Archaic Greek goldsmithing, a period defined by precision and restraint rather than ornamentation for its own sake.

The piece is crafted in 18K gold and weighs 4.50 grams. The martillé ground is framed by twisted rope-wire and granulation — both techniques that originate in ancient Mediterranean metalwork. Granulation involves fusing tiny spheres of gold to a surface without visible solder, a process that requires exact heat control and is carried out entirely by hand in the Damaskos atelier. The rope-wire is similarly hand-formed, giving each border a slight variation that distinguishes it from cast or machine-finished work.

Damaskos is one of a small number of Greek ateliers still working these techniques at production scale, training each goldsmith in methods that have remained largely unchanged for over two millennia. This pendant is sized and finished for daily wear — substantial enough to anchor an outfit, refined enough to function as an heirloom piece passed between generations.
