Damaskos Archaic Repoussé 22K Gold Ring
A museum-replica ring shaped by repoussé — an ancient technique in which the embossed pattern is formed by hammering the metal from the reverse side. Cast in 22-karat gold, the surface carries the warmth and depth that only high-karat gold achieves. Made entirely by hand in the Damaskos atelier.
About The Product
This ring is drawn from the ancient Greek repertoire — a museum-quality replica whose embossed surface pattern places it firmly within the Archaic tradition. The design is not applied to the metal. It emerges from within it.
The defining technique is repoussé, one of the oldest metallurgical processes in the ancient world. The pattern is formed by working the gold from the back, using a hammer and shaped tools to push the design outward into relief. No casting mold produces this result — each ring is worked by hand, which means no two pieces are identical. The ring is made in 22-karat gold, a purity that produces the deep, saturated yellow associated with ancient Greek and Egyptian goldwork. At this karat, the metal is notably soft and dense, which is precisely what repoussé requires. Weight and dimensions may vary slightly, as is inherent to fully handmade work.
Damaskos is one of the few remaining ateliers in Greece producing archaeological-replica jewelry using period-accurate techniques. Each piece is made in Athens by craftsmen trained in methods that have changed little in two millennia. This ring is suited to daily wear or as a long-term acquisition — a working object with documented historical roots.
