Damaskos Byzantine 18K Gold Dangling Earrings with Emeralds
Pendant earrings in 18K gold with a hand-applied martillé finish — a technique that creates a velvety, light-diffusing texture across the surface. Granulation work borders each piece, framing two oval natural emeralds, 4x3mm each. Made entirely by hand in the Damaskos atelier in Athens.
About The Product
These pendant earrings are defined by their martillé finish — a hand-hammering technique that gives the gold a soft, matte texture distinct from polished or satin surfaces. Granulation, the ancient practice of fusing tiny gold beads onto a metal surface without solder, adds precise decorative borders around each drop. Two oval natural emeralds, measuring 4x3mm each, are set at the base of each earring.
Crafted in 18K gold, each earring is shaped and finished entirely by hand at the Damaskos workshop in Athens. The martillé technique requires controlled, repeated strikes across the gold surface to build an even texture — a process that cannot be replicated by machine. The granulation work follows goldsmithing methods documented in ancient Greek and Byzantine jewelry, adapted here within a contemporary silhouette that wears cleanly with modern dress.
Damaskos is one of a small number of Greek ateliers still practicing these techniques at a production level, training each artisan in methods passed down through successive generations of Greek goldsmiths. These earrings pair naturally with the coordinating Damaskos Byzantine ring, bracelet, or necklace, and are designed for daily wear as much as formal occasions. They are built to last and intended to be passed on.
