Damaskos Byzantine 18K Gold Drop Earrings with Garnet – Pear Drop
Pear-shaped garnets, each 10x7mm, are framed in granulation — the ancient technique of fusing tiny gold beads to a surface without solder. A hand-formed rosette, known as a Rodaka, crowns each drop. Set in 18K gold by the Damaskos atelier in Athens.
About The Product
These drop earrings are built around a pair of deep red, pear-shaped garnets — 10x7mm each — framed entirely in granulation and finished with a small Rodaka, the classical Greek rosette motif, at the top of each piece. The silhouette is Byzantine in structure: layered, deliberate, and designed to move with the wearer.
The defining technique here is granulation: the application of minute gold spheres to a gold surface using a heat-bonding process that leaves no visible solder. It is one of the oldest and most demanding techniques in goldsmithing, requiring absolute precision at every stage. The garnets are set to maximize light capture, so the stones shift in color as the earrings move. Each pair is handcrafted in 18K gold and weighs 10 grams — substantial enough to confirm the quality, light enough for regular wear.
Damaskos is an Athens-based atelier with decades of practice in ancient Greek goldsmithing techniques. Their work is drawn directly from museum-held originals — archaeological pieces that have survived millennia — and reinterpreted for contemporary wear. These earrings suit both formal occasions and daily use, and are made to the standard of a piece passed down rather than replaced.
