Damaskos Byzantine 18K Gold Teardrop Earrings with Lapis Lazuli
Hammered gold pear-shaped forms anchor two drops of natural Lapis Lazuli in this Byzantine-style earring. The hand-hammered finish catches light the way ancient goldwork was designed to — through texture, not polish. Made entirely by hand in the Damaskos atelier in Athens.
About The Product
These drop earrings are built around a hammered gold pear-shaped form — a silhouette drawn from Byzantine jewelry traditions — from which a natural Lapis Lazuli stone hangs freely. The design is restrained and wearable, with enough presence to read as a considered choice.
Each earring is hand-hammered in 18K gold, a process that creates the characteristic martillé surface — a worked, irregular finish that gives the gold depth and warmth unavailable through casting or polishing alone. The Lapis Lazuli stones are set to hang from the base of the pear drop, allowing movement with wear. Total weight is 10 grams across the pair. The combination of hammered gold and deep blue stone is among the oldest pairings in Mediterranean jewelry history.
Damaskos is one of Athens’ most respected goldsmithing ateliers, working in techniques rooted in Byzantine and Archaic Greek practice. These earrings move well from daily wear into more formal contexts — the scale is discreet enough for the office, the material quality apparent enough for an evening. A note from the original atelier documentation indicates the design is also available in all gold, without the stone, for those who prefer a single-material look.
