Damaskos Byzantine Double Medallion 18K Gold Earrings with Diamonds
Centered on the Hercules’ Knot — one of the most enduring motifs in ancient Greek art — these 18K gold stud earrings are sandblasted to a matte finish, then detailed with granulation, twisted wire, and a hand-woven double chain. Two diamonds totaling 0.10 ct are set at the knot’s core.
About The Product
The Hercules’ Knot is among the oldest continuously used symbols in Greek art, associated with strength and enduring bonds. Here, Damaskos renders it as a double medallion stud — two layered forms connected by a hand-woven chain, built outward from that central knot in 18K gold.
The surface is sandblasted to a consistent matte finish before the decorative work begins. Granulation — a technique dating to ancient Greece in which tiny gold spheres are fused to the surface without solder — is applied alongside twisted wire detailing, each element shaped by hand in the Athens atelier. Two round diamonds totaling 0.10 ct are set at the knot’s intersection, adding focused light without competing with the goldwork. The earrings weigh 10g, giving them a presence on the ear that reads as substantial rather than decorative.
Damaskos has worked from its Athens workshop for decades, drawing directly from museum-documented Byzantine and Archaic prototypes. These earrings pair naturally with other pieces from the Damaskos Hercules’ Knot series — the motif appears across rings, bracelets, and necklaces in the collection. Also available with natural colored stones in place of diamonds.
