This Byzantine cross pendant is built around two distinct surface techniques applied in combination: a martillé finish across the body of the cross and granulation along its borders. The martillé finish is achieved through controlled hand-hammering directly on the gold surface, creating a matte, velvety texture that diffuses light rather than reflecting it. Granulation — an ancient goldsmithing technique in which tiny spheres of gold are fused to the surface without solder — traces the edges and adds architectural precision to the design. A round diamond of 0.05 ct is set at the center of the cross. The pendant is crafted in 18K gold; as with all Damaskos pieces made entirely by hand, weight may vary by approximately ±0.2 grams.
